Settling the score

Majority of shops remained closed
on the day of mourning
A member of the Muttahida Quami Movement was killed when unknown assailants broke into his house in PIB Colony at dawn and sprayed bullets.

In the incident, his brother also lost his life.Consequently, violence gripped the city and many people fell prey to violence while dozens of vehicles were set ablaze. Due to the violence, the shops and markets remained closed the following day.

A day after, a member of the Awami National Party was gunned down near Board Office when the car he was travelling in had been attacked by unknown gunmen.Resultantly, violence erupted in the city and many other innocent people lost their lives while dozens of vehicles were also set on fire and shops and markets were forcibly closed.

In these two incidents, the people who had been murdered or those whose vehicles were burned, have nothing to do with the two incidents but they have paid the price for living in the mega city of Karachi.

Besides, those who have been forced to shut their shops, markets, and businesses have also been paying the price for doing their business in the commercial hub of the country.

During these days of unrest in Karachi, the government machinery remained inactive rather the officials of law enforcement agencies appeared helpless in bringing the situation under control.

Fear of death has been hovering over the city and everyone is afraid of even his or her shadow.

The MQM in a statement alleged the members of the Lyari gang war were responsible for these murders and demanded of the authorities concerned to bring the killers to justice.

Miscreants torched many
vehicles in the city
Following the death of the ANP worker, the ANP has claimed that the city had been made the hell to their workers. Some senior police officers said in private gathering that their hands were tied and they could do nothing.

Those police officers said that if they had picked up people suspecting of their involvement in crime or murders, they came under immense pressure from the influential who insisted them to release those picked up.

They were of the view that the police department had been badly politicized and the law and order could not be improved unless the police department would be de-politicized.

People in general have been fed up with the perpetual incidents of violence in the city bringing the routine life to complete halt.

No body knows how long the Karachiites will have to suffer the repercussions of settling the scores.
